Job Description

Must be licensed as a provisional pharmacy technician in good standing in the State of Montana.
JOB SUMMARY
: Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacist(s) in providing safe and effective medication therapy to patients at St. Peter's Health.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of pharmacy dispensing systems including unit dose, IV admixture, and outpatient prescription processing. Knowledge of basic differences in drug therapy in different patient age groups from neonates to geriatric patients. Knowledge of systems of measurement (e.g., metric system) and ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and conversions within and between systems of measurement. Knowledge about aseptic technique in the compounding of IV admixtures if required in practice location. Knowledge of drug nomenclature including brand and generic names. Knowledge of pharmacy law and activities allowed and not allowed by law. Knowledge and experience in the use of a computer and keyboard. Experience with Windows programs, use of e-mail and use of the internet.
EDUCATION
No previous training/schooling or certification. Expected to obtain certification via examination within 2 years of start as pharmacy technician I to continue employment.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY
Must be licensed as a provisional pharmacy technician in good standing in the State of Montana.
ADDITONAL CERTIFCATION/ADVANCEMENT WITHIN THE TECHNICIAN ROLE
Achievement of additional certifications or relevant training as approved by pharmacy leadership and pertaining to practice site constitutes advancement within the pharmacy technician role. These additional certifications require additional time, effort, and responsibility for the pharmacy technicians, which may translate to additional financial compensation.
