Job Title:
Pharmacy Technician Job Description This onsite Pharmacy Technician role supports a large, rapidly growing specialty pharmacy by simplifying access to medications and delivering personalized care for patients with rare diseases. You will focus on insurance verification, pharmacy claim processing, and patient support activities, working closely with a multidisciplinary team in an office-based environment with no direct patient contact. Responsibilities
+ Recognize and clearly communicate different insurance types and explain when each type should be utilized for patient prescriptions.
+ Communicate with patients to gather accurate and complete insurance information needed for claim processing and reverification.
+ Enter all communication, documentation, and claim-related information into the Biologics MIS system in a timely and accurate manner.
+ Assist with projects such as yearly reverification to ensure ongoing insurance eligibility and coverage for patients.
+ Triage prescriptions to preferred pharmacies or HUB providers when the specialty pharmacy is unable to serve the patient, ensuring continuity of care.
+ Appropriately process pharmacy claims in the Biologics MIS system, following established protocols and procedures.
+ Recognize and interpret pharmacy claim responses, and take appropriate follow-up actions to resolve issues or denials.
+ Manage inbound calls from patients, clients, physicians, and payors regarding patient updates, insurance details, and services provided.
+ Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to clinicians in accordance with internal guidelines.
+ Manage and respond to internal written communications and requests received via chat or email in a professional and timely manner.
+ Perform accurate data entry related to prescriptions, insurance information, and claim activity.
+ Leverage pharmacy and retail pharmacy experience to support efficient workflow and excellent service.
+ Operate in a call center-style environment, handling multiple inquiries while maintaining high-quality customer service.
+ Support employee engagement and contribute positively to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team culture.
+ Perform other related duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and patient services. Essential Skills
+ Registered Pharmacy Technician status is required. + 1-2 years of pharmacy-related experience, including a pharmacy background and customer service experience.
+ Experience with prior authorizations and insurance verification processes.
+ Ability to recognize and effectively communicate about different insurance types and when each should be utilized.
+ Proficiency in processing pharmacy claims and interpreting pharmacy claim responses.
+ Strong customer service skills, including managing inbound calls from patients, clients, physicians, and payors.
+ Accurate data entry skills and attention to detail when working in pharmacy systems.
+ Ability to manage and respond to internal communications via chat and email in a professional manner.
+ Reliable transportation to work onsite five days a week. Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) credential is a plus.
+ Minimum of an associate degree or equivalent experience and 3+ years of related experience is preferred.
+ Experience working in a retail pharmacy or specialty pharmacy environment. + background in call center operations or high-volume phone environments.
+ Comfort working in an office-based specialty pharmacy focused on rare disease patient support.
+ Interest in contributing to a rapidly growing organization with opportunities for long-term employment. Work Environment This position is fully onsite in an office environment in Cary, NC, with no direct patient contact. The pharmacy operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, and this role follows weekday shifts ranging from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., or 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. EST. The organization is closed on major holidays and weekends, providing a stable Monday-Friday schedule. You will work within a multidisciplinary team in a structured, technology-enabled setting using the Biologics MIS system and other internal communication tools such as chat and email. The environment emphasizes employee engagement, collaboration, and high-quality support for patients with rare diseases, with the potential for the role to transition into a permanent position. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cary, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $22.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
