This assignment is ideal for someone with strong pharmacy, medication-management, inventory, or veterinary hospital experience who can quickly assess an existing pharmacy operation, establish organization and inventory controls, and help ensure medications are stored, documented, and handled appropriately. Primary Responsibilities Organize and restructure the hospital's in-house pharmacy for improved accuracy, accessibility, and workflow. Conduct a comprehensive review of medications and pharmacy inventory. Identify expired, damaged, recalled, obsolete, or otherwise unusable medications. Coordinate the proper segregation and disposal of expired or unusable medications in accordance with hospital procedures and applicable federal and New Jersey requirements. Follow all required procedures regarding controlled substances , including documentation, storage, inventory controls, and disposal; controlled-substance activities requiring authorization must be performed under the direction of authorized hospital personnel/DEA registrant. Review medication expiration dates and establish a practical system for ongoing expiration-date monitoring. Organize medications by appropriate category, storage requirements, and hospital workflow. Identify inventory shortages, excess inventory, duplicate products, and medications approaching expiration. Assist with establishing appropriate par levels and inventory controls. Review pharmacy ordering and receiving processes and recommend improvements. Ensure refrigerated medications and other temperature-sensitive products are stored appropriately. Help establish clear labeling and pharmacy organization standards. Work with veterinary leadership and technicians to improve pharmacy efficiency and reduce medication waste. Maintain accurate records of medications removed from inventory and referred for appropriate disposal. Provide a written or verbal project handoff at the conclusion of the assignment identifying completed work, remaining issues, and recommended ongoing procedures. Qualifications Certification needed- Previous pharmacy technician, veterinary pharmacy, veterinary technician, medication inventory, or comparable healthcare experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, comfort working independently, and the ability to handle confidential and medication-related information responsibly. Experience with veterinary medications, controlled-substance inventory procedures, pharmacy audits, or inventory-management systems is highly desirable. Assignment Details This is a temporary 3-4 week assignment , anticipated at approximately 30-40 hours per week . We are looking for someone who can begin as soon as possible and dedicate significant attention to completing the pharmacy organization project within the assignment period.
