Main Function:
In cooperation with the Medical Staff, the Health System and Director of Pharmacy, participates in programs and procedures designed to promote the appropriate, safe and effective use of medications for Thompson Health patients and residents.
Required Job Specific Competencies:
Demonstrates skill in daily communication including effectively gathering and disseminating information. Exhibits flexibility in decision-making and prioritizing assignments. Pharmacy Interns are knowledgeable in proactively resolving problems, and making recommendations under the supervision of a pharmacist. Mature, energetic and creative individual who demonstrates team-player qualities demanded by a rapidly changing health care environment. Possesses pharmaceutical care knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to take constructive criticism from pharmacists to further their development. Must show a willingness to learn, assume responsibility and pursue excellence. Possesses, maintains and enhances knowledge of all accrediting and/or regulatory agency standards (i.e. Joint Commission, DOH, etc.) Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Possessing a working knowledge of medications and their uses, the pharmacy intern will provide professional services and support in the following distributive and clinical areas: Medication distribution and compounding Drug Information Education and Resource Materials Formulary Management/Drug Usage Adverse Drug Reactions Medication Error Prevention Nursing/Pharmacy Liaison Clinical Computer Applications Medication Use Evaluation Medication Reconciliation Qualifications Current New York State Pharmacy Intern Permit Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a school of pharmacy 1 year of hospital, nursing home or institutional experience preferred.
