Job Description

Pharmacy Technician I Full-time, Day/Night Shift, ( 2) 8-hour shifts and (2) 12-hour shifts per week. Hours are 7:00 am
  • 3:30 pm, 7:00 am
  • 7:30 pm, or 7:00 pm
  • 7:30 am. Every other weekend and on rotating holidays. AFSCME

Purpose:
Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers medications to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.
Responsibilities:
Accurately fills floor stock request. Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs. Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations. Basic understanding of the concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals. Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing, and other orders. Perform monthly medication storage area inspections. Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity as ordered by the physician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products. Repackages drugs into a unit-of-use container.
Education and Formal Training Required:
Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent required, and one of the following: Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician Assistant or Trainee within the UPMC Health System Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing
Experience Required:
Must be familiar with a typewriter keyboard and demonstrate the ability by producing a neat, accurate, and legible copy. The individual must have the ability to adapt to the computerized Pharmacy Information Systems utilized. The individual must demonstrate initiative and good judgment.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
