Full Job Description Pharmacy Operations Technician:
The Pharmacy Operations Technician supports pharmacists and operational leadership with prescription fulfillment, inventory management, medication packaging, patient communication, and production workflows. This position helps ensure medications are prepared accurately, delivered on time, and supported by clear communication with patients, caregivers, and providers. Core Responsibilities 1. Inventory and Order Management Receive and process daily wholesaler orders, including McKesson and Cencora. Verify incoming orders and report missing, extra, damaged, or incorrect items. Stock medications in designated locations, including shelves and refrigeration units. Prioritize medications needed for urgent prescriptions, driver owes, and pending orders. 2. Ancillary Medication Preparation Prepare non-pouch medications and ancillary items, including: Bottled medications Inhalers Insulins Liquids Creams Specialty medications Confirm that ancillary medications are properly labeled and matched to the correct patient order. Organize ancillary items in delivery carts for final verification. 3. Packaging and Production Support Fold packs, organize racks, and run packs through Parata PERL systems. Add or remove medications and adjust pack start dates as directed. Disassemble and correct packs when necessary. Support packaging workflows for new patients, regular-cycle patients, and ASAP orders. 4. Checking and Quality Support Assist with computer-based verification and physical pack inspections. Apply any established color-coding systems. Confirm that patient orders are complete, organized, and routed correctly. Report discrepancies or potential medication errors immediately. 5. Patient and Provider Communication Answer incoming calls professionally and courteously. Assist patients, caregivers, and providers with: Medication inquiries Route clinical, billing, or operational questions to the appropriate department. Document and communicate messages through approved internal systems, including Google chat and email. 6. PioneerRx and Documentation Use PioneerRx to print medication lists, review patient notes. Assist with medication changes, start-date adjustments, and workflow updates as directed. Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with established procedures. 7. Cross-Department Support Assist the billing team with refill and insurance-related lists (as needed). Support delivery preparation and logistics (as needed). Assist with training and onboarding new technicians. Perform other pharmacy operational duties as assigned.
