Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team. This vital role involves supporting pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, managing patient care processes, and ensuring compliance with all pharmaceutical regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a commitment to patient service, and a thorough understanding of pharmacy operations across various settings, including hospital, community, and LTC (Long-Term Care) pharmacies. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to patient safety and medication management in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Responsibilities Assist pharmacists in preparing, dispensing, and verifying medications accurately while maintaining strict adherence to pharmaceutical regulations and safety standards. Perform pharmaceutical calculations for medication dosages, IV infusions, and compounding procedures with precision. Manage medication inventory, including stock replenishment, expiration tracking, and proper storage according to regulatory guidelines. Enter patient data into pharmacy software systems efficiently and accurately to support medication records and billing processes. Prepare sterile IV admixtures using aseptic techniques and sterile compounding procedures for inpatient and outpatient care. Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, medical terminology standards, and drug regulation policies. Provide excellent patient service by answering medication-related questions, assisting with intake procedures, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Support hospital or community pharmacy operations through data entry, medication reconciliation, and customer service duties. Maintain thorough documentation of medication preparation processes, including IV infusion procedures and drug administration records. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure safe medication practices within acute care or hospital settings. Qualifications Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in LTC pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, or community pharmacy environments is highly desirable. Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory compliance, drug regulation policies, and state healthcare regulations. Proficiency in pharmacy software systems for data entry, inventory management, and medication tracking. Strong understanding of medical terminology related to pharmacology and acute care settings. Experience with IV compounding, sterile IV admixture procedures, aseptic technique, and pharmaceutical calculations. Certification or licensure as a pharmacy technician according to state requirements is preferred. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality while adhering to strict privacy standards. Familiarity with hospital or healthcare setting protocols related to medication administration and pharmacological medical terminology.
