We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician specializing in Long-Term Care (LTC) to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will support the medication management process within LTC facilities, ensuring accurate dispensing, compounding, and documentation of pharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, and patient care protocols to enhance medication safety and efficiency. Responsibilities:
Prepare and dispense medications accurately in accordance with physician orders and pharmacy protocols, including sterile IV admixture procedures and aseptic techniques. Assist with medication inventory management, including stock replenishment, expiration tracking, and proper storage procedures. Perform pharmaceutical calculations for dosage accuracy, compounding medications, and IV infusion preparations. Ensure compliance with all federal and state pharmacy laws, healthcare regulations, and pharmaceutical regulatory standards. Utilize pharmacy software for data entry, prescription processing, and maintaining detailed patient medication records. Support patient service initiatives by providing clear medication instructions and addressing patient inquiries professionally. Maintain strict patient confidentiality while handling sensitive health information in accordance with privacy regulations. Support hospital or LTC facility staff with medication administration procedures and documentation. Participate in quality assurance activities related to drug regulation compliance and sterile compounding standards. Assist in training new staff or interns on pharmacy operations, safety protocols, and medical terminology relevant to pharmacy practice.
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in LTC settings or hospital environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations, compounding medications, IV infusion techniques, and aseptic procedures. Familiarity with pharmacy software systems used for prescription processing and inventory management. Certification or licensure as a pharmacy technician according to state regulations is required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a plus. Strong understanding of medical terminology, pharmacological principles, and drug regulation laws at the federal and state levels. Experience with pharmaceutical regulatory compliance standards related to sterile preparations and medication safety. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate data entry and record keeping. Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and team members across diverse settings.
