What You Will Do As the Pharmacy Technician, you will support the institution's pharmacist and healthcare team by helping maintain safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting the pharmacist with ordering, receiving, stocking, storing, preparing, and dispensing prescription and non-prescription medications. Preparing pill-line medication cards and unit-dose medications. Stocking and supporting Pyxis or other automated dispensing systems. Monitoring medications for expiration dates and maintaining current inventory. Maintaining medication supplies in the main pharmacy, satellite locations, crash carts, emergency bags, Night Stock cabinets, and automated dispensing systems. Maintaining narcotics counts and needle and syringe inventories. Auditing Night Stock cabinets and automated medication systems. Keeping pharmacy areas clean, organized, safe, and compliant with sanitation requirements. Using electronic medical records and pharmacy-related computer systems. Scanning and filing documents, maintaining stock records, answering telephones, and scheduling patients. Preparing call-outs, institutional memoranda, and other pharmacy documentation. Receiving patients and explaining procedures in a calm and professional manner. Participating in quality-assurance and organizational-performance activities. Completing required pharmacy competency training. Staying informed about the Federal Bureau of Prisons Formulary and applicable changes. Following medication-safety, infection-control, privacy, and institutional-security requirements. Be willing to complete institutional orientation, security screening, health-clearance, and credential-verification requirements. Be able to work onsite at FCI Gilmer in Glenville, West Virginia. Experience in a correctional healthcare environment is helpful but not required . Candidates with community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, long-term-care pharmacy, or other institutional pharmacy experience are encouraged to apply. Work Environment This position is performed inside a secure federal correctional institution and may involve frequent interaction with incarcerated individuals. The selected Pharmacy Technician must maintain professional boundaries, follow all security procedures, protect confidential information, and comply with institutional rules. The Pharmacy Technician will not supervise incarcerated individuals or Federal Bureau of Prisons employees.
Schedule Services are normally required:
Monday through Friday Approximately 6:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Approximately 35 hours per week Excluding federal holidays With a 30-minute unpaid lunch period, when applicable The schedule may occasionally change because of emergencies, security conditions, weather, or institutional needs. Flexibility and dependable attendance are essential. Professional Attire Professional attire is required. Employees may not wear khaki or green clothing because those colors are worn by the institution's inmate population.
