Job Description

Location(s): Casa Grande Cave Creek Queen Creek Job Summary This position is responsible for delivering high‑quality, compassionate patient care in a cost‑effective manner. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures while ensuring compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy procedures professionally, competently, and compassionately for patients of all ages. Accurately collect, label, and handle specimens required to fulfill laboratory orders. Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment for patients and staff, including adherence to infection control standards, body fluid precautions, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Properly collect, handle, and dispose of specimens and contaminated materials in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ensure laboratory requisitions are complete, accurate, and legible, including patient demographics, physician information, diagnosis codes (ICD‑9 or narrative), and insurance details. Review Medicare National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) and Local Medical Review Policies (LMRPs) for ordered tests to determine the need for an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and complete the ABN with the patient when required. Ensure Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) forms are completed accurately when applicable. Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and clinical staff regarding proper laboratory test ordering procedures. Maintain assigned draw station(s), ensuring cleanliness and adequate daily stocking of supplies. Report scheduling updates, concerns, and performance‑related issues to the Operations Supervisor on a daily basis. When assigned to a physician's office, perform laboratory specimen collection only; no duties may be performed for the physician or medical practice. Additional Responsibilities Perform courier duties as needed. Deliver laboratory and medical supplies when required. Obtain additional patient or requisition information when requested. Contact Medicare patients as necessary to meet compliance requirements related to MSP documentation. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by your Supervisor. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements Phlebotomy certificate and license, if applicable Demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and evaluative skills Ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions Adaptability in a fast‑paced, changing work environment Effective verbal and written communication skills Professional telephone etiquette Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Working knowledge of medical terminology Physical Requirements Continuous sitting: up to 6 hours per day Continuous walking: up to 6 hours per day Intermittent bending, squatting, and climbing Simple grasping, pushing, and pulling with both hands Fine manipulation and repetitive hand movements Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting of 11-35 pounds
