Job Title:
Phlebotomist II Job Description The Phlebotomist II performs high-volume blood collection and specimen processing for patients across all age groups in a clinical or outpatient setting. This role focuses on accurate and efficient venipuncture, proper specimen handling and storage, and exceptional customer service while maintaining strict compliance with laboratory protocols and safety regulations. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles on patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, such as urine or fecal collection, to patients before and during the process. Collect and store specimens in accordance with established procedures and test requirements. Match laboratory requisition forms or computer-generated labels to specimen tubes to ensure complete and accurate identification. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols. Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes to maintain specimen integrity. Follow detailed procedures and protocols for packaging and preparing specimens for transport, ensuring specimen integrity is maintained throughout the process. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script or orders to ensure 100% accuracy before processing or transport. Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required by laboratory procedures and safety standards. Update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems or documentation. Answer telephone calls professionally and provide laboratory results or information to satisfy inquiries within allowed guidelines. Fully understand and interpret physicians' orders related to laboratory testing and specimen collection. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and infection control standards. Attend and participate in annual department trainings and any required ongoing education. Deliver a high level of customer service to patients, clinical staff, and providers while representing the laboratory professionally. Handle a workload that includes 30 or more patient draws per day while maintaining quality and accuracy. Essential Skills High school diploma or
GED. 5-7
years of overall experience in a related healthcare or laboratory setting. At least 3+ years of recent phlebotomy experience, current or within the past 3 months. Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draws, and venipuncture techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. Experience drawing blood from pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Experience handling a volume of 30+ patient draws per day. Strong specimen processing skills, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and storing specimens according to protocol. Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms or computer labels to specimen tubes and verify test orders. Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and standard safety practices. Proven customer service experience in a clinical or laboratory environment. Ability to read and understand physicians' orders related to laboratory testing. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of specimen handling and documentation. Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients. Ability to answer telephone inquiries professionally and communicate laboratory results as appropriate. Additional Skills & Qualifications Fluency in Korean, Mandarin, or Vietnamese is a plus and highly valued due to the patient population and clinic locations. Experience working in a clinical or outpatient clinic setting is preferred. Experience that includes a mix of clinical phlebotomy experience rather than only plasma, dialysis, or blood bank experience. Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on empathy, patience, and professionalism when interacting with patients and clinical staff. Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a busy environment with multiple providers and a steady flow of patients. Interest in career growth opportunities within laboratory services, including potential paths into coordination, supervisory, or regional roles. Work Environment This position is based in a busy clinical outpatient environment across multiple locations, supporting a group of approximately seven providers. The role involves working within a modern laboratory and patient care setting that emphasizes accuracy, safety, and patient-centered service. The schedule typically runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break and rotating weekend coverage. The work involves frequent patient interaction, high-volume blood draws, and routine use of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and specimen storage units. Team members collaborate closely with clinical staff and providers to support patient care. Professional attire appropriate for a clinical and laboratory setting is expected, and staff follow all applicable safety and infection control protocols. The environment offers exposure to diverse patient populations, and fluency in Korean, Mandarin, or Vietnamese is especially helpful due to the locations served. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Buford, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
