Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
(non-exempt) Performs general office procedures and/or collects biological specimens for analysis.QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required Medical or secretarial education preferred Completion of phlebotomy training program/courseACCOUNTABILITY
Reports to Laboratory ManagerDIRECT REPORTS
NonePOSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Greet outpatients in a friendly manner and put them at ease waiting to have their blood drawn. Answer the telephone promptly and courteously, answering questions, and directing questions to the appropriate person or department. Maintain the laboratory files in a neat and orderly manner. File completed reports in a timely manner. Collect biological specimens quickly and efficiently with minimum discomfort to the patient. Follow universal precautions when collecting specimens. Collect specimens in the correct tubes or containers. Label specimens correctly. Order tests correctly using the computer, referral lab requisitions, or other special forms.Deliver completed reports as necessary:
Mail completed reports to doctor offices. Fax reports as needed. Call results as requested. Complete monthly reports and check monthly referral test bills as directed. Serve on various committees and perform other duties as designated.WORK ENVIRONMENT
: Works in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases Involvement in inpatient care may result in unavoidable work-related illness or injury Work environment is comfortable, with minimal exposure to physical hazards Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situationsLocation:
