09/08/2026 Job Description Job Description SMS Medical is a growing clinical laboratory seeking experienced Mobile Phlebotomists to provide blood collection services throughout the Chicagoland area. Our mobile phlebotomists work across a variety of healthcare settings, including long-term care and skilled nursing communities, assisted and independent living communities, physician offices, clinics, and patients' homes. This is a mobile, route-based position for phlebotomists who are comfortable working independently, traveling between locations, and providing professional care to patients of varying ages and medical needs. Position Responsibilities Travel to assigned facilities, physician offices, and patient homes to perform blood draws and specimen collections Perform routine and STAT venipuncture as assigned Accurately identify patients and label specimens at the time of collection Properly collect, handle, and prepare specimens according to laboratory requirements Maintain accurate documentation of completed draws, refusals, hard sticks, and unsuccessful collections Communicate collection issues and patient concerns promptly to our operations team Coordinate professionally with nurses, physicians, office staff, caregivers, patients, and family members Transport specimens safely and promptly to the laboratory or designated drop-off location Follow HIPAA, infection-control, safety, and laboratory procedures Manage assigned routes efficiently while maintaining a high level of patient care Schedule We are hiring for multiple mobile phlebotomy positions, including:
Routine Mobile Routes:
Monday-Saturday Early morning route availability Saturday coverage
STAT AM:
approximately 8:00 AM-4:00
PM STAT PM:
approximately 3:00 PM-9:00 PM Full-time, part-time, and additional coverage opportunities available Qualifications Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred Mobile phlebotomy experience strongly preferred Experience with long-term care, skilled nursing, physician offices, home draws, or geriatric patients is a plus Must be comfortable performing venipuncture on difficult and hard-stick patients Ability to work independently and manage a mobile route Strong communication and organizational skills Reliable transportation and valid driver's license Smartphone with reliable cellular service Dependable and punctual Comfortable traveling throughout an assigned service area Phlebotomy certification preferred Ideal Candidate We are looking for dependable and experienced phlebotomists who enjoy working independently and interacting directly with patients. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in different healthcare environments throughout the day-from long-term care communities and physician offices to individual patient homes-and understands the importance of professionalism, accurate specimen collection, and reliable service.
