• Laboratory Apply Job Type Full-time Description Candidate will need to be flexible with a combination of 8-12-hour shifts including a weekend and holiday rotation.

Job Summary:

A phlebotomist performs venipunctures and skin punctures on patients of all ages for the purpose of withdrawing blood specimens for testing. Also performs clerical, computer data entry, and specimen processing functions in multiple areas of the laboratory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs venipunctures and skin punctures using appropriate phlebotomy techniques on patients of all ages. Processes tissue, cytology, fine needle aspirate, and frozen section samples in an accurate and precise manner. Maintains records per department policy. Distributes test results to appropriate areas and physicians. Perform assigned clerical duties to support other laboratory personnel. Performs venipunctures at local nursing homes and/or assisted living facilities, on a schedule defined by the hospital. Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area. Is knowledgeable of general hospital and unit specific policies and procedures. Performs EKGs, Holter Monitors, and Event Monitors. Collects chain of custody drug screen collections. Collects other specimens as defined by the hospital. Place orders for outpatient procedures and verify order and diagnosis accuracy. Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, & Geriatric Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

Professional Requirements:

Responsible for meeting fiscal requirements, and compliance with the accrediting body guidelines along with Federal and State regulations. Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements. Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality. Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE). Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone. Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior Ability to pass position specific competencies Proficient oral and written communication Excellent critical thinking skills Other duties as assigned within scope of job and organization. Experience:

At least 18 years old with a High School Diploma or GED Phlebotomy or Medical Assisting certificate preferred

Certificates and Licenses:

Phlebotomy or Medical Assisting certificate preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
