We are looking for a Pediatric Phlebotomist to draw blood and other tissue or fluid from our pediatric patients for testing. We'll rely on you to preserve patient health and quality of samples. We're looking for important phlebotomist skills such as compassion, presence of mind, skills with a pediatric population and attention to detail. You should have a diploma in phlebotomy and have knowledge of puncture techniques. An ASCP, RPT or NCPT certification is a plus. This Position reports to the Director of Nursing. Responsible for contributing to the smooth delivery of excellent patient care. Develops appropriate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues as a team member providing the highest quality patient care and contributes toward the attainment of important goals for the patient and the practice. The ideal candidate is motivated, exceptionally organized, and able to anticipate what will contribute to a positive visit for the patient and family. Must be able to work in a busy environment. Currently offering a sign on bonus of $1,000 for certified or licensed phlebotomists.

Essential functions:

• Performs venipunctures according to laboratory policies and procedures including the collection of timed specimens, blood cultures, pediatric and neonatal specimens.
• Positively identifies all patients according to laboratory policies and procedures. Verifies identification of specimens and labels specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures.
• Performs screening tests and reports results.
• Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing.

Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing. Resolves ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting the physician of the order, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory. Refers unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification before collecting samples or processing specimens. Makes the supervisor aware of unresolved orders.

• Contributes to the general laboratory functions and practice needs.

Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training. Maintains compliance with laboratory and practice policies and procedures, and safety practices. Keeps work area neat and clean and restocks daily supplies.

Required Qualifications:

• Previous phlebotomy experience with a pediatric population a must.
• Completion of a NAACLS accredited phlebotomy program.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; strong attention to detail, organizational ability and follow-through.
• Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information
• Excellent communication skills and exceptional patience and compassion
• Knowledge of medical terminology and certification for CPR preferred.
• Ability to effectively handle challenging situations and to balance multiple priorities.
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
