Job Description
As needed position Variable shift covering Essential functions of the position may include: Collects blood from inpatients, outpatients, and LTC residents according to established procedures and policies, assuring optimal specimens. Includes capillary punctures and venipunctures on infants and adults, and radial arterial punctures on adults. Properly collects timed specimens, including glucose tolerance specimens. Keeps the patient access and specimen receiving areas neat, clean, and tidy. Stocks phlebotomy supplies and anticipates other supply needs. Assists other lab staff with clerical and cleaning duties. These may include answering the phone, filing, scanning, computer entry, and hauling trash/recyclables. High school graduate, preferably with courses in biology and chemistry. Ability to perform basic and uncomplicated venipunctures desired. A positive attitude and evidence of excellent customer service temperament. Computer knowledge and the ability to use a keyboard. Certification or satisfactory completion of laboratory introductory phlebotomy course, and/or laboratory experience or medical assistant training preferred. Other experience may be considered. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for following established procedures, obtain venous and capillary blood specimens needed for laboratory tests. Transport and deliver lab specimens to specialized laboratory areas. Verify and enter patient I.D. information on specimen labels and perform related clerical duties (e.g., logging and filing).
