Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a per diem Phlebotomist I for the Acute Services Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the Phlebotomist I is to collect blood specimens from patients and prepare all samples for processing by the laboratory. Responsible for performing electrocardiograms (EKGs) on a limited, as needed basis. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture and finger stick) according to established procedure with minimal discomfort to patient. Collects urine specimens from patients. Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions. Organizes daily assignments and manages workload to ensure timely specimen collection and processing. Assists colleagues and communicates effectively with laboratory and clinical staff to ensure efficient workflow. Performs electrocardiograms ( EKG ) on a limited, as needed basis. Prepares, processes and packages specimens for transport to reference laboratories following chain of custody and specimen integrity standards.
