JOB OVERVIEW

FUNCTIONS
Perform phlebotomy under the direction of a department Supervisor or designee, Performs venipuncture, heel sticks, finger sticks, and bleeding times according to standard operating procedures and delivers specimens to the appropriate department, Responds promptly to STAT, timed test requests, and performs routine rounds on time, Enters test requests and receives specimens in LIS computer system, Covers Central Processing area, Greets and registers laboratory outpatients, instructs outpatients on correct collection and storage of specimens, and ensures complete and correct documentation for Medicare and Medicaid patients, as required by federal law and corporate compliance policies, Obtains and verifies information prior to processing test orders, Performs point-of-care testing according to standard operating procedures, Provides proper documentation of patient identification and test results, Performs quality control as per policy, Read, be familiar with, participate in periodic education and training regarding, and comply with, RWJBH Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and other corporate compliance policies, These may be amended from time to time, Practices precepts of Standard Precaution, Hazard and Safety guidelines Participates in Health Fair screenings as needed, Assists in orientation and training of new employees and participates in affiliated teaching programs of the hospital as assigned, Assume the duty of overseeing daily operations of Phlebotomy in the absence of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, Assists the Phlebotomy Supervisor to oversee the daily operation of the Phlebotomy department, Performs staff training on new equipment and or procedures under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, Required to maintain continued education, Responsible to adhere to departmental and Laboratory policies and procedures, Perform other duties, as assigned,
