Job Description

Sunrise Medical Laboratories, Inc., a leading clinical reference lab in Chantilly, VA, seeks a detail-oriented Phlebotomist to support high-quality diagnostic testing. In this role, you will perform venipuncture and capillary collections, verify patient identity, and ensure accurate labeling and processing of specimens. You will follow strict safety and quality protocols, use modern laboratory systems, and collaborate with a professional, patient-focused team dedicated to accurate, timely results and continuous improvement across the Mid-Atlantic region. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection following established protocols Verify patient identity, explain procedures, and ensure informed consent Label, process, and prepare specimens for transport and analysis with strict accuracy Maintain phlebotomy equipment, supplies, and a clean, safe work area Follow infection control, safety, and quality assurance procedures at all times Enter and verify patient and specimen data in laboratory information systems Collaborate with lab staff, nurses, and providers to support timely testing Monitor specimen integrity and resolve collection issues or recollect as needed Provide compassionate, professional patient interaction to reduce anxiety Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement initiatives Required Skills Venipuncture Capillary blood collection Specimen labeling and processing Patient identification and verification Infection control and safety protocols Use of laboratory information systems (LIS) Specimen handling and transport requirements Quality assurance procedures Data entry accuracy Customer service in healthcare settings
