- Phlebotomist, where you will play a vital role in patient care by expertly collecting specimens for laboratory testing.
This position offers a dynamic work environment focused on precision and patient interaction, ideal for professionals passionate about contributing to healthcare diagnostics. You will have the opportunity to work within a team dedicated to quality and accuracy while engaging with diverse patient populations, including bilingual Spanish speakers. Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring high-quality specimen collection.
- Label specimens accurately and prepare them for testing, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing samples as necessary.
- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to reduce patient anxiety.
- Collect specimens following established procedures and verify all test requisitions against lab orders for accuracy.
- Store and transport specimens maintaining appropriate temperatures and following specific protocols to preserve specimen integrity.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all specimen collection methods and ensure proper processing and handling.
- Greet patients and clients professionally, creating a calm and trusting environment throughout the collection process.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations, and attend annual departmental training sessions.
- Assist with specimen labeling, decontamination, and recording maintenance data.
- Respond to laboratory result inquiries and perform other duties as assigned, supporting the overall laboratory workflow. Required Skills
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to effectively communicate procedures and maintain professionalism with diverse patient populations. Additional Skills & Requirements
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish preferred.
- Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and a valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned geographic region, including Manhattan, Queens, Far Rockaway, Arverne, and Astoria.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 pounds.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that includes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, with Wednesdays from 8 am to 7 pm, and rotating Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm.
- Certification requirements vary by state (certified in
CA, LA, NV, WA
