Job Description

JOB TITLE
: Processor/Phlebotomist
REPORTS TO
Laboratory Manage
SUPERVISORY SKILLS
: None.
JOB DESCRIPTION
: Responsible for processing reference lab samples, maintaining supply inventory, providing supplies to physician offices, administrative duties, also responsible for ordering patients labs, performing venipuncture on outpatients, performing waived Strep/Flu testing, and collecting blood, urine, and swab specimens from patients. Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Prepares reference lab specimens for transport. Prepares and maintains equipment/supplies per policy and procedures. Receives and processes specimens for laboratory testing, enters orders, and reconciles discrepancies. Correctly selects correct provider orders, transmits eCW if needed or orders in LIS and enters data into the computer. Prints labels. Check all paperwork for accuracy. Performs venipuncture. Correctly identify and label patient specimens. Centrifuge samples and store properly until transported to the Lab. Complies with all policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, PPE and infection control. Completes annual OSHA/Bloodborne pathogen training. Administrative duties including, but not limited to: voided requisitions, not received reports, Labcorp test set up in LIS, LABDAQ/eCW reconciliation, pending reference lab reports, mailing patient results, scanning patient reports/information, maintaining the dispatch queue, changing/making new files every month. Ordering and maintaining adequate supplies for the lab, phlebotomy, and physician offices. Identifies problems and works to resolve issues. Available to cover multiple sites as needed.
WORK SCHEDULE
varies; typically, 9:00am
  • 5:30pm or 7:30 am
  • 4:00 pm (depending on departmental needs), Monday
  • Friday. Saturday Rotation
  • Closed Sundays and Holidays.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Phlebotomy Certification
EDUCATION
: High school graduate; some college preferred
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of six-months phlebotomy experience. Demonstrates current competencies related to position.
KNOWLEDGE
: Knowledge of Phlebotomy techniques. Knowledge of Laboratory protocols and policies. Familiar with computer use; data entry Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff. Knowledge of safety, infection control policies, use of PPE and regulations.

Knowledge of HIPPA regulation
SKILLS:
Skilled Phlebotomist Organized and efficient
ABILITIES
Ability to work independently and exercises independent judgment/decision-making. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions and follow written protocols.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception. Must be able to assist patients as needed. Must be able to prioritize and deal with occasional stress
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Laboratory work settings. May be exposed to communicable disease, sharps, toxic substances, body fluids, fumes, hazardous materials, noise.
