Phlebotomist II - BartlesvilleJob Description The Phlebotomist II performs high-volume blood draws and specimen collection in a fast-paced hospital and laboratory setting, ensuring accurate labeling, processing, and storage of specimens while delivering professional, courteous patient care. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to established procedures and regulatory standards, and effective communication with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel. Responsibilities
+ Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, with accuracy, professionalism, and a strong focus on patient comfort.
+ Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients prior to and during procedures.
+ Demonstrate and use appropriate phlebotomy techniques, including straight needles and butterfly needles, in accordance with established protocols.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures to maintain specimen integrity and quality.
+ Fully understand and interpret physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and laboratory protocols.
+ Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against orders or scripts to ensure 100% accuracy before processing.
+ Package specimens correctly for transport, following protocols to maintain proper temperature and handling requirements.
+ Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, ensuring accurate and complete labeling.
+ Follow different specimen handling and transport procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of each sample.
+ Receive and accession specimens into the laboratory information system, ensuring accurate data entry and tracking.
+ Assist with specimen processing duties within the laboratory, supporting timely and efficient workflow.
+ Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
+ Update patient information and laboratory records accurately and promptly in the appropriate systems.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
