Schedule:

Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for safely and accurately collecting, labeling, processing, and preparing patient specimens for laboratory testing. This position provides compassionate patient care while maintaining strict standards for safety, accuracy, and specimen handling.

Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Verify patient identity, test orders, and requisitions; resolve discrepancies with appropriate clinic staff. Collect blood and other specimens through venipuncture and finger sticks using proper aseptic and safety techniques. Accurately label, document, process, store, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing and transport while maintaining specimen integrity. Perform required quality control procedures and maintain accurate laboratory, phlebotomy, equipment, and temperature logs. Enter patient, billing, and laboratory information accurately and maintain required documentation. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with SCHC policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and applicable standards. Perform non-patient-facing duties, including inventory management, stocking, ordering supplies, sanitizing, filing, scanning, answering phones, and email correspondence. Follow all departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and quality standards and participate in required training and continuing education. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment :

100% clinic-based position with continuous interaction with patients. May involve exposure to airborne pathogens and other routine healthcare-related hazards. Requires adherence to applicable safety procedures, infection-control practices, and clinic policies.

Travel Requirements :

Primarily clinic-based; occasional local travel may be required as needed.

Physical Demands :

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, push, carry, and lift as required to perform job duties. Ability to maintain physical mobility throughout the clinic. Vision and hearing must be within functional range, with corrective devices as needed.

Qualifications Required Education and Experience Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent GED.

Experience:

Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program. Knowledge & Skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to analyze information and follow established procedures. Strong procedural and organizational skills. Commitment to quality, safety, and patient care. Computer, printer, calculator, fax machine, copier, multi-line phone system, and other standard office equipment. Standard medical laboratory equipment and supplies.
