Job Title:
Phlebotomist II Job Description The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves working mainly with adults and geriatrics and requires a candidate who is a multi-tasker, possesses critical thinking skills, and demonstrates excellent customer service. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100%. Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a phlebotomist. Experience in pediatric and geriatric blood draws, particularly with heel sticks on babies. Straight needle blood drawing experience. Ability to work independently and handle 30-40 draws per shift. High School Diploma or GED. Valid Driver's License. Reliable means of transportation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with processing specimens after drawing. Work Environment Training will occur during the first two weeks of employment. The Phlebotomist will travel to various sites in a float position, covering a wide range of locations. Phlebotomist will travel to sites in Float position will be covering a large scale of locations from: Merrillville, Valparaiso, Wheatfield, Kouts, Portage, Munster, Crown Point, Michigan City, IN, Laporte, Chesteron, Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, IN, Dyer, IN. Scheduling will be provided 1-2 weeks in advance. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 6 am to 7:30 pm, with rotating Saturdays from 8 am-12 pm or 9 am-1 pm. A weekday off will be provided when scheduled for a Saturday shift, which occurs roughly once a month. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Itasca, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
