Job Description
Job Title:
Phlebotomist IJob Description The primary function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring the proper handling and labeling of specimens. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. + Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. + Decontaminate work areas and update patient information. + Collect and store specimens, such as blood, urine, or fecal samples, according to established procedures. + Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients. + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. + Understand and follow all physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma orGED. + 0-2
years of relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with blood draw and venipuncture techniques. + Phlebotomy certification. + Good communication skills to explain procedures clearly to patients. Work Environment The work environment is fast-paced, typically in a lab or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and regulations, including OSHA and DEP standards. Employees are expected to dress appropriately for a clinical environment and attend annual training sessions to maintain compliance and enhance their skills. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
