Job Description

Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist Hill Country Internal Medicine & Weight Loss Position Summary Hill Country Internal Medicine & Weight Loss is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and organized Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist to support our providers and deliver excellent patient care. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient clinic, and experienced in both clinical assisting and blood collection. Key Responsibilities Welcome patients and prepare them for examinations. Obtain and accurately document vital signs, medical history, medications, allergies, and reason for visit. Perform venipuncture and collect, label, process, store, and prepare laboratory specimens for pickup. Verify laboratory orders and maintain accurate specimen documentation. Perform point-of-care testing, including urinalysis, blood glucose, pregnancy testing, and other approved tests. Assist providers with examinations, procedures, injections, and minor in-office treatments. Administer medications and injections as directed by a licensed provider and permitted by clinic policy and applicable law. Perform EKGs and other clinical tests as ordered. Prepare examination and procedure rooms before and after each patient. Clean and disinfect equipment and clinical areas according to infection-control standards. Monitor and restock medical, laboratory, and examination-room supplies. Document patient information accurately and promptly in the electronic health record. Communicate provider instructions, test information, and follow-up needs to patients within the permitted scope of the position. Assist with prescription refill requests, referrals, prior authorizations, and patient calls as assigned. Identify and immediately escalate urgent patient symptoms or concerns to a provider. Never turn away or allow a patient with a medical concern to leave without first consulting the provider or clinic management. Protect patient privacy and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, and clinic policies. Support front-office and administrative duties when needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant certification preferred. Phlebotomy certification preferred. Previous experience in an outpatient medical office, primary care clinic, or laboratory preferred. Strong venipuncture skills required. Current CPR/BLS certification preferred. Familiarity with electronic health records and basic medical terminology. Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, providers, and staff. Athena knowledge preferred but not required Strong attention to detail, time-management skills, and ability to multitask. Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, and assist with positioning patients. Ability to safely lift or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to use appropriate precautions when handling blood, bodily fluids, specimens, and medical equipment.
Pay:
$16.00 - $19.00 per hour
