SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- 1. Adheres to all established policies and procedures in the collection and/or processing of specimens.
- 2. Demonstrates efficiency and proficiency in the collection, handling, and processing of specimens. Able to perform a minimum of 40 venipunctures per eight-hour shift.
- 3. Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks associated with processing and/or phlebotomy.
- 4. Shares daily workload in the phlebotomy/processing section including outpatient areas and reception/greeting tasks.
- 5. Prioritizes work to assure completion within the assigned shift and according to required TAT.
- 6. Exhibits an understanding of how the processing/phlebotomy areas contribute to the overall functioning of the laboratory.
- 7. Maintains good communication with team leaders, coworkers and customers. Respects patient confidentiality.
- 8. Exhibits excellent customer relations in dealings with patients, visitors, physicians, hospital staff and coworkers.
- 9. Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.
- 10. Understands/respects laboratory billing compliance plan. Adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan. Attends Annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training.
- 11. Initiates and documents patient teaching, including family and /or significant others. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
- 12. Accepts on call responsibilities as needed and/or necessary.
