Job Description
OhioHealth is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will support Physical Therapists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, implement treatment plans, assist with therapeutic exercises, monitor patient progress, and document outcomes accurately. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient mobility, function, and quality of life. Responsibilities Deliver physical therapy interventions under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, following established plans of care and Ohio licensure guidelines. Guide patients through therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, and functional activities to improve strength, mobility, and independence. Assist with safe patient handling, transfers, and use of mobility aids, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and fall-prevention practices. Observe and document patient responses to treatment, updating the supervising Physical Therapist on progress, barriers, and any changes in condition. Accurately and efficiently complete clinical documentation in the electronic medical record according to Ohio Health and regulatory standards. Educate patients and families on exercise programs, body mechanics, use of assistive devices, and strategies to continue progress at home. Collaborate closely with Physical Therapists, nurses, physicians, and other members of the care team to coordinate and optimize patient-centered care. Support an inclusive and compassionate environment that reflects Ohio Health's commitment to diversity, equity, and respect for all patients and team members. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, competency training, and continuing education opportunities offered within the Ohio Health network. Maintain equipment and treatment areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition, following infection prevention and safety policies. Required Skills Therapeutic exercise and functional mobility training Gait training and balance interventions Safe patient handling and transfer techniques Application of physical agents and modalities (e.g., heat, cold, electrical stimulation as allowed by state law) Accurate and timely clinical documentation in EMRVital sign monitoring and patient safety assessment Patient and family education on exercises and home programs Interdisciplinary communication with PTs, nurses, and physicians Time management and caseload prioritization Infection prevention and standard precautions
