Job Description

OhioHealth is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will support Physical Therapists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, implement treatment plans, assist with therapeutic exercises, monitor patient progress, and document outcomes accurately. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient mobility, function, and quality of life. Responsibilities Deliver hands-on physical therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to support patient rehabilitation goals. Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans, including therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance activities, and functional mobility training. Monitor patient response to treatment, document progress accurately in the electronic medical record, and report changes to the supervising Physical Therapist. Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, proper body mechanics, and strategies to promote safety and independence. Ensure safe patient handling and transfers using appropriate equipment and techniques to prevent injury to patients and staff. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, to coordinate holistic patient care. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized treatment environment, adhering to infection control policies and regulatory standards. Support an inclusive and compassionate care environment by demonstrating respect, cultural sensitivity, and empathy toward all patients. Participate in ongoing professional development, in-service education, and quality improvement initiatives within the Ohio Health network. Contribute to a positive team culture that aligns with Ohio Health's mission of community health, diversity, equity, and innovation in care delivery. Required Skills Therapeutic exercise implementation Gait training and balance interventions Manual therapy techniques within PTA scope Use of modalities such as heat, cold, and electrical stimulation Patient transfer and safe mobility techniques Documentation in electronic medical records (EMR) Vital signs monitoring and basic patient assessment Infection control and standard precautions Time management in a fast-paced clinical setting Interdisciplinary communication and collaboration Patient and family education on home exercise programs Knowledge of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions
