Job Description
OhioHealth is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will support Physical Therapists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, implement treatment plans, assist with therapeutic exercises, monitor patient progress, and document outcomes accurately. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient mobility, function, and quality of life. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, following established plans of care. Assist in implementing therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance activities, and functional mobility interventions to improve patient strength, endurance, and independence. Safely assist patients with transfers, positioning, and use of assistive devices, ensuring proper body mechanics and fall-prevention practices. Observe and document patient responses to treatment, accurately recording progress, functional status, and any changes in condition in the electronic medical record. Communicate patient progress, concerns, and recommendations to the supervising Physical Therapist and interdisciplinary care team in a timely and professional manner. Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safe mobility techniques, use of equipment, and strategies to maintain or improve function at home or in the community. Follow all infection control, safety, and regulatory guidelines, maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Contribute to discharge planning by providing input on patient functional status, equipment needs, and recommendations for continued therapy or supportive services. Participate in team huddles, case discussions, and quality-improvement initiatives that support excellent patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in physical therapy and rehabilitation.
