THIS IS A TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EXAMINATION. IT IS NOT A WRITTEN EXAM. THERE IS CURRENTLY A SUBSTITUTE POSITION AVAILABLE.
This is a skilled paraprofessional position involving the application of physical therapy treatments to clients or assists in their application under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist will evaluate the client, develops the goals and treatment plan, and designates specific responsibility to the Assistant. A Physical Therapist is always readily available for direction and assistance. While supervision is not a function of this title, guidance and instruction may be provided to other support staff. Does related work as required. Examples of Typical Duties Provides skilled therapeutic intervention and services under the supervision of a Physical Therapist and in accordance with the resident's goals; Documents Patient's progress and response to treatments and interventions in the EMR; Provides for and observes safety precautions during all phases of treatment; Confers periodically with the Physical Therapist regarding patient's progress and any communicates any concerns or guidance needed; Ensures safe treatment practices and monitors patient's engagement and responses to treatment, modifies as necessary. Completes billing and documentation of treatment encounter notes and progress notes in a timely manner; Participates with interdisciplinary team in the formulation of the clients' total health care plans when appropriate; Oversee the work of Physical Therapy Aides as directed by the Physical Therapist. Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Working knowledge of the principles, techniques and terminology of physical therapy; working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in physical therapy; working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; working knowledge of the concepts and scope and limitations of physical therapy; sufficient physical strength to support and lift adult patients; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to plan and oversee the work of aides; ability to learn and utilize computer software programs; skill in observing and recording patients' responses to treatments; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Minimum Qualifications Certification and current registration by the New York State Education Department as a Physical Therapist Assistant and maintenance of such certification throughout employment.
