A Physical Therapy Assistant assists physical therapists to help patients with disabling injuries or conditions improve their range of motion and manage their pain. Helps patients learn exercises and teaches them to use therapeutic equipment. Works in the office of a physical therapist or in a healthcare facility.
The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for providing services including treatment and therapeutic interventions in physical medicine to patients as directed by the supervising therapist.
Immediate Supervisor :
The Director of Physical Therapy provides supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Must follow plans created by Physical Therapist that involve strength training, exercise and physical manipulation to help patient recover loss of motor functions due to accidents, illness or age. Assist in tracking and reporting progress of patient to Physical Therapist. Additional job duties as required or assigned. Special skills required of the Physical Therapist Assistant include professional demeanor, be customer service motivated and be able to communicate effectively with patients, family, and healthcare personnel. Education, Knowledge and Skills Must be a graduate of an approved assistant's certification program. PTA must be currently licensed by the State of Texas. CPR certification is recommended. Preferred bilingual, but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Duties of this position require the ability to lift/transfer patients and equipment as dictated. Frequent and prolonged periods of bending, stooping, crouching, walking, standing, and the ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
