POSITION SUMMARY

Laurel Regional School is seeking a qualified and compassionate Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) to serve in a long-term substitute capacity.

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the LPTA will provide school-based physical therapy services to students with disabilities in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and established physical therapy plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide direct physical therapy services as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.

Implement therapeutic activities and interventions designed to improve students' functional mobility and participation in the educational environment.

Assist students with positioning, transfers, mobility, gait training, and use of adaptive equipment.

Support the use of wheelchairs, walkers, standers, gait trainers, adaptive seating, and other mobility equipment.

Maintain appropriate documentation and collect data related to student progress.

Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, nurses, families, and other members of the educational team.

Provide staff support regarding positioning, transfers, mobility, and equipment use as directed by the Physical Therapist.

Follow all applicable professional, safety, confidentiality, and school procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:

Current Virginia license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with providing therapy and mobility assistance to students.

Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

Pediatric physical therapy experience.

School-based therapy experience.

Experience working with children and young adults with significant or multiple disabilities.

Experience with adaptive seating, mobility equipment, positioning, and transfers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of procedures, activities, and equipment used in physical therapy. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to travel to more than one work location in the course of a day if assigned to an itinerant position
