A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.
Job Summary The Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Medical Doctor (MD) at Hernandez Medical Group's Oxnard Clinic is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered primary care services within a community clinic setting. The provider will evaluate, diagnose, and manage a wide range of medical conditions while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care. While this position is based in a primary care clinic, urgent care experience is highly valued, as providers may occasionally be required to address acute patient needs and must demonstrate the ability to work confidently in high-volume or fast-paced scenarios. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required to meet the needs of our diverse patient population. Duties & Responsibilities Provide comprehensive patient care, including medical histories, physical exams, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Manage medical conditions across a diverse patient population. Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests such as labs, X-rays, and EKGs. Prescribe medications and therapies within scope of licensure. Provide preventive care, health education, and counseling tailored to patient needs. Perform minor procedures (injections, suturing, wound care) as trained and credentialed. Utilize clinical judgment gained through urgent care experience when treating acute presentations. Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the EMR (NextGen). Collaborate with supervising physicians, nurses, and medical assistants to ensure continuity of care. Adhere to HIPAA, state, and federal regulatory guidelines, as well as HMG policies and procedures.
Qualifications Education:
MD/DO from an accredited medical school with residency in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty, OR Master's in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
Licensure/Certification:
Current California MD/DO or PA-C license. Active DEA license. Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
Experience:
1-2 years of clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, or emergency medicine strongly preferred. New graduates with significant urgent care rotations will be considered.
Language:
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English required. Skills & Competencies Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills. Ability to manage both routine primary care needs and urgent patient presentations. Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and staff. Cultural sensitivity and compassion for diverse populations. Proficiency in EMR systems (NextGen preferred). Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
