The Physician Assistant will work closely with the supervising nephrologist to provide comprehensive care for patients with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and dialysis-dependent kidney disease. The PA will participate in dialysis unit rounding, hospital nephrology consultations, and outpatient clinic visits, assisting in the evaluation and management of patients with complex renal conditions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to improving outcomes for patients with kidney disease. Responsibilities Dialysis Unit Rounding Perform routine patient rounds in outpatient dialysis units under physician supervision. Evaluate dialysis patients for fluid status, blood pressure control, electrolyte abnormalities, and dialysis adequacy. Address dialysis-related complications including hypotension, access issues, anemia, and bone-mineral disorders. Coordinate care with dialysis nurses, dietitians, and social workers to optimize treatment plans. Hospital Rounds Participate in hospital nephrology rounds and consult services. Evaluate patients with acute kidney injury, electrolyte disorders, volume overload, and dialysis needs. Assist with inpatient dialysis coordination and discharge planning. Communicate with hospitalists and specialists to ensure continuity of care. Office-Based Patient Care Conduct outpatient clinic visits for patients with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, proteinuria, and other renal disorders. Review laboratory results and diagnostic studies relevant to kidney disease management. Adjust medications and treatment plans under physician supervision. Provide patient education regarding kidney disease progression, diet, medication adherence, and lifestyle modification. Documentation and Compliance Document all patient encounters in the electronic medical record. Ensure accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding for billing and compliance. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and healthcare standards. Qualifications Required Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with Kentucky licensure or eligibility. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Strong background in internal medicine or hospital medicine. Current BLS certification. Proficiency with electronic medical record systems. Preferred Experience in nephrology or dialysis patient management. Familiarity with chronic kidney disease staging and dialysis care. Experience performing hospital rounds and outpatient patient management.
