This is an excellent opportunity for a PA who enjoys a combination of surgery, inpatient care, and outpatient medicine . You will work alongside experienced bariatric and general surgeons caring for patients throughout their surgical journey—from initial evaluation through surgery and long-term follow-up. Office Hours:
Monday-Friday schedule, generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Combination of operating room and outpatient clinic responsibilities Surgical first-assist opportunities Collaborative physician and APP team Established bariatric and general surgery practice Long-term relationships with patients Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits Annual CME allowance Paid time off Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) Employee discounts About the Position The Physician Assistant will provide care in both inpatient and outpatient settings and work closely with our surgical team throughout the continuum of patient care.Responsibilities include:
Serve as surgical first assist Provide inpatient management and postoperative care Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations Evaluate patients preparing for bariatric and general surgery Provide preoperative and postoperative patient care Manage long-term follow-up of bariatric surgery patients Review laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and EMR messages Provide patient education, counseling, and ongoing support Collaborate with surgeons, dietitians, behavioral health providers, exercise professionals, nurses, and other members of the care team Participate in the PA on-call rotation Help provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for obesity as a chronic disease Our surgeons currently perform procedures at University of Michigan Health-West, Trinity Health Grand Rapids, UP Health System-Marquette, and Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. Schedule Monday-Friday Generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.On-call rotation is approximately:
1 in 5 nights 1 in 5 weekendsQualifications Required:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program Eligible for or currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan Current NCCPA certification Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification Preferred, but not required: 1-5 years of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant Surgical or surgical first-assist experience Experience in bariatric, general surgery, GI, hospital medicine, or a related specialty Newer PAs with a strong interest in surgery are encouraged to apply. Compensation starting at $89,000-$110,000 per year , based on experience.Benefits include:
