What they do
A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.

Job Description
- Work days are Monday thru Friday, and hours vary depending upon schedule/patient load.
- Must have graduated from a physician assistant or nurse practitioners program by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or Nurse Practitioners (APRN) or its predecessors.
- Must be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners.
- Must have current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
Duties include:
Assists physician in diagnosis of patients by: Obtaining complete medical history data from patients. Performing physical examinations to obtain physical data. Organizes and presents historical and physical data, together with evaluations and recommendations, to physician in such way as to permit him/her to visualize medical problem and determine appropriate diagnosis. Provides follow-up and health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established by physician. Instructs and counsels patients with respect to such subjects as diagnostic testing results, weight loss and wellness, exercise, etc. Maintains complete and accurate records of contacts with patients whether in person or by telephone.
