Job Summary:
The Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Physician Assistant plays a vital role within the critical care team The primary responsibility is to manage high-acuity adult patients in a multidisciplinary critical care setting The ICU team provides comprehensive critical care in collaboration with various consulting specialists The APP works closely with critical care intensivists, ICU hospitalists, residents, fellows, and other APPs to provide direct patient care in the
ICU, APP
responsibilities include performing physical exams, collecting and documenting data, performing approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications Additionally, the APP may manage ICU consults in collaboration with attending physicians The APP's role in critical care is to oversee and ensure that patients receive best-practice care Additionally, the provider will be working alongside the ICU director to lead the rest of the ICU APP team This includes being part of mandatory administrative meetings monthly, along with other administrative duties such as scheduling/payroll, onboarding and hiring, training new hires, managing rosters and mentorship to other
APPs Essential Functions:
Obtains and records patient history Performs physical and medical screening examinations Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner Adequately manages patient flow in the ICU Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards Actively participates in department staff meetings and risk management education Completes required courses, i,e, HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME/CEU requirements Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to academic lectures and / or quality improvement projects
Job Requirements:
For a
Physician Assistant:
Must have Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies, Physician Assistant Certification is required, Physician Assistant Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/Physician Assistant Advisory required, Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Certifications, New Jersey CDS and DEA Licensure Leadership experience required
Additional Requirements:
Must be Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certified within 90 days of hire Must be Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) certified within 1 year of hire
Job Scheduling Requirements:
Rotating shifts days/nights and nights only available Willingness to accommodate scheduling needs including working extended hours, overnights, weekends, and holidays
Knowledge and Skills:
Recommended high acuity/adult critical care experience Experience with ultrasound IV and point of care ultrasound is desired Medical and broad based clinical critical care knowledge, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, and ability to effectively and successfully work with all ICU and hospital employees
