Job Summary:
The Orthopedic Physician Assistant is an independent health care provider who coordinates inpatient orthopedic care through collaboration with the Physician. The PA provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice, Community Medical Center, and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/Physician Assistant Advisory Committee.Essential Functions:
The Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting the Physician in the evaluation and management of new emergency and inpatient consults The Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting the Physician in the evaluation and management of acute, chronic, pre-op, and post-op surgical patients The PA will be responsible for taking H&Ps, performing physical exams, and participating in flow of patients thru the practice. The PA will assist the physicians with various procedures/surgeries and assist with coordinating the case of the patient. Demonstrates an ability to organize and achieve quality performance in new routine. Demonstrates effectiveness in coordinating aspects of patient care within a surgical health environment Effectively collaborates with surgical attending to identify, assign and assess care. Demonstrates strong organizational skills, communicates effectively. Organizes daily schedule and demonstrates time management. Effectively prioritizes work assignments and demonstrates effective communication skills Implements the policies and procedures of the practice. Performs assessment and reassessment of the patient according to applicable department standards and identified tools. Renders emergency care as appropriate Facilitates patient referral to the appropriate physician or agency Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and imaging studies Prescribes medication in compliance with both New Jersey State and Hospital guidelines. Maintains current certifications required of all hospital APP's (BLS, ACLS, CME, DEA). Establishes and performs quality assurance evaluations per hospital QA policy Performs other duties as assigned by the Physician. Provides appropriate patient teaching as necessary.Job Requirements:
Physician Assistant Certification, Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/ Physician Assistant Advisory Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Life Support (ACLS) CDS required DEA required >2 years surgical management background preferred.
