A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Physician Assistant will diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team. May focus on health promotion and disease prevention. May order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays. May prescribe. Provides care of hospitalized patients and has full control of a patient throughout their entire shift. Current BLS and ACLS Required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
(S): Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of Pennsylvania required. National Certification in Pennsylvania or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in Pennsylvania required.
AHA BLS & ACLS
certifications required. DEA licensure required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Critical thinking Excellent communication skills Ability to complete comprehensive physical exam, diagnose and formulate a medical management plan Ability to collaborate with attending physician
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Hospitalist or acute care setting preferred 2 years PA experience preferred
