Physician Assistant - Retina / Intravitreal Injection Specialist Rocky Mountain Retina Consultants Salt Lake City, Utah Rocky Mountain Retina Consultants is seeking an experienced and motivated Physician Assistant to join our growing retina practice, with a primary focus on the evaluation and treatment of patients receiving intravitreal biologic therapies. This is an excellent opportunity for a PA interested in developing specialized expertise in medical retina and intravitreal injection therapy while working alongside experienced vitreoretinal specialists.
THE ROLE
The Physician Assistant will play an important role in the management of patients receiving ongoing treatment for retinal diseases, including wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), retinal vein occlusions, and other conditions treated with intravitreal biologic medications. A significant component of this position will be the performance of intravitreal injections under established practice protocols and physician supervision/collaboration, as applicable.
Responsibilities will include:
Evaluating patients prior to intravitreal treatment Obtaining and documenting relevant medical and ocular history Reviewing visual acuity, intraocular pressure, OCT imaging, and other diagnostic testing Assessing treatment response and disease activity in collaboration with the retina physician Performing intravitreal injections of FDA-approved biologic/anti-VEGF therapies within the PA's authorized scope of practice Providing patient education regarding biologic therapy, treatment expectations, risks, benefits, and potential complications Monitoring patients for treatment response and adverse events Identifying urgent findings and coordinating physician evaluation when necessary Following established injection protocols and sterile technique Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation Communicating treatment plans and follow-up recommendations to patients and referring providers Helping manage the large volume of patients requiring ongoing retinal treatment Working closely with retina physicians, ophthalmic technicians, and clinical staff to maintain an efficient clinic flow
A SPECIALIZED OPPORTUNITY IN RETINA
Retina patients frequently require serial intravitreal treatments over months or years. This position provides the opportunity to become highly skilled in the clinical management of these patients and the administration of intravitreal therapies. The ideal candidate will enjoy developing expertise in: Medical Retina
  • OCT Interpretation
  • Anti-VEGF Therapy
  • Intravitreal Injections
  • AMD
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Diabetic Macular Edema
  • Retinal Vein Occlusions You will work closely with our retina specialists while developing a specialized skill set in one of the fastest-growing areas of ophthalmology.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Current Physician Assistant license and NCCPA certification Eligible for licensure and practice in Utah Strong clinical assessment skills Excellent attention to detail Comfortable working in a high-volume specialty practice Excellent patient communication skills Interest in developing expertise in medical retina Previous ophthalmology or retina experience strongly preferred Prior experience performing intravitreal injections is highly desirable Willingness to follow standardized clinical and injection protocols We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with intravitreal injections, ophthalmology, optometry, emergency medicine, or another clinical setting involving minor procedures and high-volume patient care.
