Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate, and adaptable Physician Assistant (PA) to join our high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Medicine practice in Wausau, Wisconsin. Our Emergency Department cares for approximately ~ 36,000 patients annually and provides exposure to a broad range of acute medical, traumatic, surgical, pediatric, and behavioral health conditions. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced PAs and motivated new graduates who are interested in building a successful, long-term career in Emergency Medicine. Our Practice:
We utilize a physician-supervised, team-based practice model . Every patient is evaluated and managed in collaboration with a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician , providing meaningful clinical support while allowing PAs and NPs to progressively develop their skills and autonomy. We make a significant investment in onboarding, education, and mentorship. You will work alongside experienced Emergency Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers who are committed to teaching, providing feedback, and supporting your professional growth. Our practice is known for its strong culture of collaboration and exceptionally high clinical retention . We value teamwork, clinical excellence, respectful communication, and long-term professional development. Our Emergency Department utilizes the EPIC electronic medical record for documentation, order entry, communication, and care-coordination.
What You'll Do:
As an Emergency Medicine PA, you will: Evaluate and manage patients with a broad range of acute illnesses, injuries, and medical conditions. Obtain focused histories and perform comprehensive physical examinations Develop differential diagnoses and initiate management plans in collaboration with Emergency Medicine physicians Order and interpret laboratory studies, ECGs, radiographic imaging, and other diagnostic tests Perform Emergency Medicine procedures appropriate to your training and experience, including wound repair, suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, foreign-body removal, and other bedside procedures Collaborate closely with Emergency Medicine physicians, nurses, specialists, hospitalists, and other members of the healthcare team Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, follow-up recommendations, and return precautions clearly to patients and families Coordinate consultations, admissions, transfers, and safe discharge planning Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record (EPIC) Participate in ongoing education, clinical training, and quality improvement

Scheduling & Lifestyle:
Annual target: Approximately 1,560 hours per year Time off: Typically 10 or more days off per month Shift length: Primarily 7- to 10-hour shifts Average schedule: Approximately 16 shifts per month Flexible scheduling: Shift volume may be tailored to individual needs Weekend coverage: Approximately two weekends—or four weekend shifts—per month, with a mix of day and evening shifts No overnight shifts: The latest PA/NP coverage ends at approximately 2:00 AM Holiday coverage: Shared equitably among PA/NP team members Additional shifts: Opportunities are available for clinicians who would like additional hours Convenient scheduling: QGenda cloud-based scheduling with mobile access for schedule viewing and shift swapping

PM Shift Differential and Weekend & Holiday Differential Professional Fees:

Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program Current or eligible PA licensure in the applicable state Current national certification Current BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, and other relevant certifications are preferred or may be obtained during onboarding Emergency Medicine experience is welcomed but not required Motivated new graduates are encouraged to apply Why Join Us?
