8:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Position Overview The Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive medical care within an Internal Medicine and Primary Care setting. The position involves evaluating and managing patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, prescribing medications and treatments, coordinating care with other healthcare professionals, and maintaining accurate and timely medical documentation. The Physician Assistant is expected to exercise sound clinical judgment, provide patient-centered care, and maintain professional and ethical standards consistent with the PA's education, training, experience, competency, applicable laws and regulations, organizational policies, and the applicable practice agreement. The Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with the supervising physician and other members of the healthcare team. The supervising physician will provide oversight and remain available for consultation, communication, referrals, and other supervision requirements as established by the practice agreement and applicable California law. Primary Responsibilities and Duties The Physician Assistant is responsible for performing and/or participating in the following duties: Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories. Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions within the PA's education, training, competency, scope of practice, and practice agreement. Develop individualized treatment and care plans based on each patient's medical condition, history, clinical needs, and applicable standards of care. Prescribe, furnish, or order medications, treatments, and other therapeutic interventions as authorized by applicable law. Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests as clinically indicated and authorized. Monitor patient conditions and clinical progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate. Recognize conditions requiring physician consultation, specialist referral, emergency intervention, or additional evaluation and communicate with the supervising physician as appropriate. Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, preventive care, health maintenance, and disease management. Coordinate and collaborate with the supervising physician, physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to promote continuity and quality of patient care. Facilitate appropriate referrals, consultations, and follow-up care. Accurately document patient evaluations, diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, referrals, procedures, consultations, and other relevant clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR-Sutter Epic). Perform clinical procedures appropriate to the PA's education, training, experience, demonstrated competency, and practice agreement. Participate in clinical case review, consultation, and other activities required by the supervising physician or organization. Participate in quality improvement activities and initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes and clinical care. Participate in clinical research or other professional activities when applicable to the practice. Maintain compliance with applicable professional, clinical, regulatory, organizational, and practice-agreement requirements. Maintain appropriate communication with the supervising physician regarding patient care, including consultation for cases requiring physician involvement. Qualifications and Professional Requirements The Physician Assistant position requires the following qualifications, skills, and professional credentials: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant educational program. Current and unrestricted California Physician Assistant license. Current NCCPA certification (PA-C), is applicable. Current eligibility to practice under a California physician assistant practice agreement. Current prescribing authority and applicable registrations required for the position. Current DEA registration is required for the position and if the PA will be authorized to furnish/order-controlled substances. Prior experience in an Internal Medicine and/or Primary Care setting preferred. Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment-planning skills. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions. Strong understanding of Internal Medicine and Primary Care principles and practices. Ability to perform clinical procedures relevant to the position and within the PA's education, training, experience, competency, and practice agreement. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, if required by the organization or position. Proficiency with electronic health records and medical documentation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize clinical responsibilities and manage a demanding patient-care environment. Excellent critical thinking and clinical decision-making abilities. Ability to recognize situations requiring consultation with or referral to the supervising physician or another healthcare professional. Ability to respond appropriately to stressful situations and make timely, informed clinical decisions. Commitment to continuing professional education and ongoing professional development. Bilingual proficiency is considered an asset. High level of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct. Ability to maintain complete, accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate medical records in accordance with organizational requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
