Team collaboration is viewed as imperative to provide strong patient outcomes and hold each other accountable to our core values. The candidate will be in the outpatient clinic setting working in collaboration with our foot and ankle surgeon and hand and wrist surgeon. This position also includes operative and intraoperative responsibilities working directly with our foot and ankle surgeon. The APP will provide non-operative and perioperative foot and ankle and hand and wrist care across Advanced Orthopedic New England's locations: Bloomfield, Enfield and Vernon offices. The role when providing care in the clinic focuses on patient evaluation, education, postoperative management, and care coordination. In addition, the APP will assist with Orthopedic Urgent Care coverage as assigned for purposes of patient access to care. Consistent with AONE's expectations for all Advanced Practice Providers, this role follows a standard Monday-Friday schedule, focused on outpatient orthopedic care, with no call responsibilities.

Perform new, established, and pre-/post-operative foot and ankle and hand and wrist patient evaluations in the clinic setting Manage patients with foot and ankle and hand and wrist conditions including: Sports related injures, Sprains and strains, Fracture care, Arthritis treatment, Nerve injuries and nerve compression disorders, Tendon, ligament and soft tissue injuries, Heel pain and plantar fasciitis, Bunions and hammertoes, Complex foot and ankle deformities, Achilles tendon injuries, Foot and ankle surgical assist, Postoperative recovery and follow-up Order, review, and interpret diagnostic studies (X-ray, MRI, CT, labs) in coordination with the supervising foot and ankle and hand and wrist surgeon Develop and implement care plans aligned with foot and ankle or hand and wrist-specific protocols and surgeon preferences Clearly, confidently, and accurately explain diagnoses and surgical procedures to patients and families in a clinic setting Candidates must either: Demonstrate strong baseline understanding of foot and ankle and hand and wrist surgery or Show a clear willingness and aptitude to learn, master, and communicate these procedures effectively to patients Reinforce realistic expectations regarding recovery, restrictions, timelines, and warning signs Serve as a primary clinic contact for postoperative patients during business hours Calmly and appropriately triage patient phone calls and portal messages, including: Pain control questions Wound concerns Neurologic symptoms Infection or complication concerns Escalate issues to the surgeon when indicated and provide reassurance and education when appropriate Evaluate and treat orthopedic urgent care patients when assigned, including sprains, strains, fractures, and initial management of musculoskeletal complaints Identify red flags and coordinate appropriate referral or follow-up Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR (AthenaHealth preferred) Assist with care coordination, imaging follow-up, and continuity of care across office locations Participate in protocol development and workflow optimization for the foot and ankle and hand and wrist programs as they grows
Qualifications/Requirements:
The candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to learn, have strong organizational skills, compassion, and an ability to work as part of a team. Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current licensure to include: Active Connecticut state license or ability to obtain one CT Controlled Substance License Federal DEA Orthopedic experience preferred; motivated candidates with relevant orthopedic background encouraged to apply Required travel between office locations Ability to multitask and direct appropriate patient care with support of the medical team Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to manage complex patient interactions This position requires demonstrable eligibility to work in an environment that is receiving federal funding, i.e., Medicare, Medicaid as well as a license to provide health care by any appropriate state licensing authorities.
