Working closely with emergency medicine providers, behavioral health clinicians, hospital staff, and community partners, this role helps ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered psychiatric care during periods of crisis while supporting appropriate disposition and transitions of care. In addition to clinical responsibilities, this position will play a key role in supporting psychiatric education and physician development through participation in the Indiana University School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency Program, including the clinical supervision and training of residents as part of an eight-resident psychiatry residency program launching in July 2027.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments for patients presenting in behavioral health crisis. This position will be supported by CARE Team and other members of the psychiatric providers team that includes psychiatrists and PMHNPs. Provide consultation and treatment recommendations to emergency medicine and hospital-based providers. Support disposition planning, including inpatient admission, outpatient follow-up, and community resource coordination. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and efficient behavioral health care delivery. Assist with quality improvement, emergency psychiatry program development, and clinical excellence initiatives. Participate in resident education, supervision, and academic activities associated with the IU School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency Program.
Weeknight coverage:
Approximately nine nights/quarter.
Weekend coverage:
Approximately three weekends/quarter.
Compensation & Benefits:
$322,000 salary + opportunity for annual incentive bonus $75,000 sign on bonus Relocation up to $15,000 Comprehensive benefits package and CME allowance Fully implemented EMR (Epic) integrated with Deaconess Health Systems.
