Job Description
Position Summary The Nephrology Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, provides contingent weekend inpatient nephrology coverage for Michigan Kidney Consultants. The APP works in collaboration with the on-service nephrologist to support inpatient rounding, selected new consults, dialysis-related care, documentation, and care coordination. We are hiring for Troy, Southfield, Pontiac and Royal Oak. Classification and Schedule Contingent/PRN weekend position. Shifts are typically Saturday and Sunday, approximately 8 hours per day between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Minimum weekend commitment is two weekends per month or as mutually scheduled. Expected patient volume is approximately 15-20 encounters per shift, including follow-up visits and selected new consults. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Round on assigned inpatient nephrology patients and complete timely assessments, physical exams, orders, progress notes, and handoffs.
- Evaluate selected new consults and review findings and care plans with the on-service nephrologist the same day.
- Manage common inpatient nephrology issues, including AKI, CKD/ESKD, dialysis needs, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, volume status, blood pressure, anemia, and renal medication dosing.
- Enter or adjust hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis orders under the attending nephrologist's plan and applicable unit protocols.
- Communicate with the nephrologist, dialysis nursing, hospital teams, and outpatient dialysis units to support safe and coordinated patient care.
- Active, unrestricted Michigan licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with appropriate national certification.
- Prescriptive authority and DEA eligibility required.
- Current BLS certification; ACLS as required by hospital credentialing.
- Ability to manage approximately 15-20 inpatient encounters per shift and complete documentation during the assigned shift.
- Minimum of two years of acute care or inpatient NP/PA experience preferred; nephrology, dialysis, critical care, or hospital medicine experience strongly preferred.
