Hospitalist - ICU Capable (Locum Tenens) West Branch, Michigan 7-On / 7-Off Block Schedule | Combined Day Shifts & Overnight Call | 8-Week FMLA Coverage Are you a Board Certified or Board Eligible Hospitalist with strong critical care and procedural capabilities seeking a dedicated block-coverage assignment in Michigan? An 86-bed acute-care community hospital with a 10-bed ICU in West Branch is seeking a true Hospitalist with recent ICU experience for 8 weeks of FMLA coverage. Featuring a structured 7-on/7-off rotation, collaborative APP support, and integrated Epic charting, this assignment is ideal for a skilled inpatient physician. The Opportunity Step into an acute care hospital and intensive care unit, leading inpatient hospital medicine care alongside daytime and nighttime Advanced Practice Providers.
Clinical Scope:
Manage 100% inpatient hospital medicine and ICU admissions.
Primary duties include:
Evaluating and managing general medical floor admissions and 10-bed ICU patients Directing critical care interventions, ventilator management, and respiratory weaning Performing required inpatient procedures independently Executing electronic order entry and documentation via Epic EMR with Dragon dictation
Procedural Requirements:
Candidates must be comfortable and proficient independently executing: Central venous line and arterial line placements Endotracheal intubation, extubation, and emergency airway management Ventilator management and respiratory weaning Chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and moderate sedation Optional (Proctored)
Privileges:
Lumbar puncture, PICC line placement, tracheostomy care, tension pneumothorax decompression, and external pacing.
The Schedule:
7-on / 7-off rotation running across specific 2026 coverage blocks:
Coverage Dates:
Sept 22-28 | Oct 6-12 | Oct 20-26 | Nov 3-9 | Nov 17-23
Daily Shift Structure:
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Onsite) + 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (Overnight Call)
Orientation & Proctoring:
Mandatory 1-day orientation during the week of Sept 14, 2026, followed by 2-3 days of proctoring.
Team & Care Structure:
1 ICU Hospitalist physician supported by 2 daytime APPs and 1 nighttime ICU APP.
Candidate Requirements Degree & Board Status:
MD or DO; Board Certified (BC) or genuinely Board Eligible (BE) in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
Note:
Candidates practicing strictly as Intensivists or Pulmonologists will not be accepted. The role requires a true Hospitalist with ICU procedural experience.
Licensure & Logistics:
Active, unencumbered Michigan State Medical License or IMLC Letter of Qualification. Michigan-based or drive-in candidates preferred.
Life Support & Case Logs:
Active ACLS certification. Minimum of 50 verifiable inpatient case logs from the past 12 months.
Experience:
Recent documented critical care and respiratory management experience.
