Setting the Stage At RWJBarnabas Health, we are advancing digestive health through exceptional clinical care, strategic growth, innovation, and collaboration. We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Director of Gastroenterology to provide strategic and operational leadership for Gastroenterology services across the northern region. In this highly visible leadership role, you'll partner with service line leaders, physicians, Medical Group leadership, hospital executives, and other key stakeholders to drive growth, strengthen clinical operations, and advance an integrated approach to digestive health. A Typical Day As Director of Gastroenterology, you'll provide strategic leadership across clinical operations, program development, business planning, physician engagement, and service line growth.
Your responsibilities may include:
Partnering with service line and system leaders to execute the strategic vision and growth plan for Gastroenterology throughout the northern region Overseeing clinical operations and supporting the development and expansion of GI clinical services Developing and executing business development and strategic planning initiatives for system-wide Gastroenterology services Supporting continued growth of the academic faculty, subspecialty multidisciplinary programs, and Medical Group practices Identifying, evaluating, and implementing new programs, services, technologies, and care delivery models Partnering with academic departments, hospitals, and the health system on space, technology, and operational planning Supporting physician recruitment, development, engagement, and retention initiatives Identifying opportunities for accreditations, designations, and external recognition, including U.S. News & World Report rankings Developing and monitoring performance metrics related to volume, quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and financial performance Leading quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and resource utilization Managing Digestive Health program meetings and ensuring continued execution of strategic priorities Building strong relationships with referring physicians and facilitating communication across the continuum of care Promoting collaboration across departments, hospitals, physician practices, and community partners throughout the organization This Role Might Be For You If... You are a strategic healthcare leader who can successfully move between big-picture planning and operational execution You enjoy building programs and identifying opportunities for sustainable service line growth You are skilled at developing trusted partnerships with physicians, executives, and multidisciplinary teams You understand how clinical quality, patient experience, operational performance, and financial stewardship work together You are comfortable leading within a complex matrixed healthcare environment and influencing stakeholders without direct authority You use data and financial insights to identify opportunities and make informed business decisions You can navigate competing priorities and politically or financially sensitive matters with sound judgment You are energized by building an integrated, high-performing Gastroenterology service line across multiple sites and physician practices To Be Considered Qualified candidates will possess: Master's degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field required Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in project management, finance, healthcare management, strategic planning, or a related discipline required Additional experience in healthcare financial management, analysis, and business planning strongly preferred Previous experience within healthcare and/or a similar academic medical center environment strongly preferred Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to effectively communicate with executive-level stakeholders Proven ability to build consensus and motivate diverse, multidisciplinary teams across varying levels of academic and professional experience Experience managing politically and financially sensitive issues within a complex organization Strong strategic planning, business development, project management, and financial management capabilities Advanced analytical skills, including financial and operational analysis, reimbursement analysis, business trends, process improvement, and identification of system opportunities Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across all levels of a complex healthcare organization Experience balancing the priorities of faculty physicians and community-based/private physicians within a competitive marketplace Strong understanding of the components required to develop and sustain a nationally recognized Gastroenterology service line Why RWJBarnabas Health At RWJBarnabas Health, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the future of Gastroenterology across one of New Jersey's leading academic health systems.
