Duties:

Provide clinical examinion, diagnosis, and trement of acute and chronic diseases, preventive care, and coordinion of care for a panel of primary care pients. Approprie documention of pient care in clinical records is expected. The incumbent refers to specialists when additional input and trement outside of the scope of the physician's experience and training is required. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring PACT teamlet performance to assess adherence to VA standards, assure quality and effectiveness of care, and meet VA performance measures. Outstanding customer service is expected. The incumbent leads the team in assisting the pient advoce and administrion in resolving pient concerns and inquiries. The Primary Care Physician is assigned responsibility for a panel of pients a specific locion. The incumbent may be asked on some occasions to assist in pient care or administrive duties the main hospital or another site. The incumbent should have competence in the effective teaching, monitoring and coordining of educional activities including planning, evaluing and documenting. The incumbent may have the opportunity to serve as an tending physician on the inpient service which includes teaching residents, fellows or other trainees. The incumbent may also have administrive responsibilities, including program planning or leadership, committee involvement, and other augmenting duties for the medical center, and making administrive decisions th affect primary care programs. The incumbent must have excellent communicion skills and relions with staff and community and is able to elicit cooperion from others. This includes interacting in person, by phone, email, residency program software, and via other electronic plforms. The incumbent serves as a member of a larger multidisciplinary trement team which includes social work, pharmacy, mental health, nutrition, and on occasion, other services. Basic Requirements:

United Stes Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in allophic medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training:

Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (

NOTE :

VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for gradue medical educion, the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME) or American Osteophic Associion (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency, or fellowship if applicable, was completed; OR (2) One year of post medical school training (internship, first year of residency, or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of post-training independent practice (performing under a full and unrestricted license) in the United Stes; OR (3) Non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United Stes (performing under a full and unrestricted license) performing duties reled to the position they are applying for (United Stes fellowships would be creditable towards this requirement), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the Physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences.

accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. In rare and unusual circumstances, the Facility Director can submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer, who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for Physicians whose composite record of experience, accomplishments, performance, and qualificions warrant such action. Preferred Experience:

Previous experience as a Primary Care physician providing direct pient care. Board Eligibility or Board Certificion by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is preferred.
