Required Overview :
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Child Life Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide psychosocial support, developmental guidance, and therapeutic interventions to children and their families facing hospitalization, chronic illness, or end-of-life situations. Your expertise will help reduce anxiety, promote coping strategies, and enhance the overall patient experience within a multidisciplinary clinical environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient-centered care, cultural sensitivity, and adherence to clinical ethical standards.
Duties:
Develop and implement individualized therapeutic plans that address emotional, developmental, and psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families. Provide child & family counseling, including preparation for medical procedures and support during difficult diagnoses or treatments. Facilitate group therapy sessions and educational activities tailored to children's developmental levels. Collaborate with medical teams, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive discharge planning and community resource referrals. Conduct patient assessments to identify psychological needs and monitor progress throughout treatment or hospitalization. Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies. Support end-of-life care discussions with families, providing emotional support and guidance aligned with clinical ethical guidelines. Assist in clinical research initiatives related to pediatric psychosocial health and contribute data collection for quality improvement projects. Participate in crisis intervention when necessary to address acute emotional or behavioral issues. Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems efficiently for documentation and communication purposes. Qualifications Certification as a Child Life Specialist from an accredited organization such as the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP). Bachelor's or master's degree in child life, psychology, social work, or a related field; relevant clinical experience is highly valued. Demonstrated experience working with children across diverse cultural backgrounds, including those with developmental disabilities or chronic illnesses. Knowledge of medical terminology, hospital procedures, and patient care protocols. Familiarity with behavioral therapy techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Basic life support (BLS) certification; CPR certification is required. Experience working in inpatient settings such as hospitals or nursing homes; hospice & palliative medicine experience is a plus. Strong communication skills for client interaction, team collaboration, and family support. Ability to handle crisis situations effectively while maintaining professionalism under pressure. CLS, or 1 year work experience as CLS OR completed 600 hours and internship - ready to take the exam Must have a Bachelor's degree in child life, child development, or related field.
